Join us for a roundtable discussion on Digitalisation for Net-Zero.
This session will consider the Recommendations from the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce. It will also present the paper brough to our attention by E3G.
E3G is an independent European climate change think tank with a global outlook. We work on the frontier of the climate landscape tackling the barriers and advancing the solutions to a safe climate.
The Roundtable
At the roundtable we will gather members to identify key policy objectives from the digital tech sector.
Discussion points will include:
- The involvement of the tech sector in decarbonising the electricity sector is important but at present the processes and incentives to support digital innovation in the electricity sector, and specifically the electricity networks, are not sufficient to ensure we can deliver a net zero grid by 2035.
- The cost of energy crisis is likely to shape government energy policy this year. Given that digital technologies offer opportunities to help reduce the cost of electricity system management and the transition to net zero, there is an opportunity to set out how digital innovation can play a key role in the response to the crisis.
- There are a range of processes that are supporting the digitalisation of the electricity sector, including the Energy Digitalisation Taskforce. However, there is uncertainty regarding how much this will address the incentives for digital innovation by the network companies.
- As such there is an opportunity to set out a discrete number of high-level priorities that would make it easier for the tech sector to offer solutions to support the networks in creating a zero-emission grid.
The Aim
The aim of this roundtable is to provide a unique perspective to this paper from the digital technology sector.
The aim of this paper is to serve not only as a lobbying document but also to provide a coordinated point of view of digitalisation of the sector. This paper will also aim to provide guidance to digital innovators as to make the market more accessible for their solutions and to support the networks transition to net zero.
