In this event, techUK’s tech & innovation programme will be joining forces with the climate programme to explore how DLT Technologies can help align the mining industry with current standards and expectations around ESG such as the Responsible Minerals Initiative due diligence guidelines, and move towards responsible mining.
With the latest Responsible Minerals Initiative due diligence guidelines and the regulatory changes underway, Digital technologies such as DLT can help expose wrongdoing and promote supply chain transparency.
Indeed, blockchain is already being used in mining to track materials and ensure they are being produced ethically and without human rights concerns. It’s also being used to bring transparency to investing in precious metals, with the security offered by the immutable nature of blockchain mitigating concerns of fraud
Yet, with hype cycles surrounding DLT technologies, it can be difficult develop long-term and useful applications of DLT whilst recognising the challenges with deployment. As we look towards creating a more responsible and sustainable approach to mining based on current ESG expectations and targets across the industry, this event will understand how blockchain can be invaluable.
This event will start with an overview of the Responsible Minerals Initiative due diligence guidelines before exploring use cases and current positive applications.
Finally, it will also address the pain points of this, such as the application of DLT technologies requiring the willingness of participants to provide true information on what and when and – by doing this – to stick to the digital database as the only source of trust.
This event will address:
- What ESG targets are currently being set across mining and how does this relate to the Responsible Minerals Initiative due diligence guidelines
- How can DLT technologies help meet these ESG targets
- Navigating concerns and challenges of DLT in mining
Speakers include:
- Paramita Das, General Manager Rio Tinto
- Tanya Matveeva, Founder, KAMNI Chain
- Fearghal Kearney, VP EMEA, Circulor
