In its 2022 Digital Strategy, the UK Government announced its intention to introduce primary legislation for Smart Data, which will form part of the Government’s Data Reform Bill and aim to increase industry and consumer participation in Smart Data Schemes.

The UK National Data Strategy (NDS) highlights Smart Data as a key initiative to support the delivery of a core mission of the strategy, to unlock the value of data across the economy. Smart Data will enable consumers to securely share their data with authorised third-party providers (TPPs) to access new innovative services.
