Ofcom publish their spectrum management strategy for the 2020s

Today Ofcom published 'Supporting the UK’s wireless future – Our spectrum management strategy for the 2020s'

Following a consultation period which closed earlier this year, today Ofcom published their spectrum management strategy for the 2020s

Ofcom's spectrum management vision is to enable growth and innovation. To help achieve this vision within their newly published strategy they note they will increase their focus on: 

  • Supporting wireless innovation
  • Licensing to fit local and national services
  • Promoting spectrum sharing

These areas of increased focus sit alongside a range of existing activties which Ofcom believe are essential to achieving their spectrum management aims, including:

  • Reviewing emerging demands across different sectors
  • Making spectrum available for new uses
  • Developing automated spectrum management tools
  • Taking a leading role in international spectrum forums
  • Supporting the wide availability of key wireless services
  • Taking proportionate and robust enforcement action
