techUK has launched its fifth GovTech SME Survey to help improve SME access to the Public Sector Market

techUK has launched its fifth annual GovTech SME SurveyEach year we undertake this survey to better understand the experience of SMEs in the public sector tech market. The findings from the survey are used to develop recommendations to promote GovTech innovation, ensure a smoother experience when it comes to procurement, and generally help improve access to the public sector market for SMEs.

techUK has been busy this year since the 2018 GovTech SME Survey which showed that some efforts over recent years to improve SME access to the sector have worked, particularly the Digital Marketplace, with 63 percent of respondents saying that the G-Cloud framework has helped SMEs access the public sector market. On the whole, however, respondents felt not enough progress has been made - 68 percent said the Government has not acted effectively on its commitment to helping small businesses break into the public sector market and only 37 per of respondents saying they felt the Government’s 33 percent SME target is achievable in the next five years.

Throughout 2019 techUK has been working on a series of market engagement events to help SMEs engage better with government and gain business. Informed by SME Survey we launched our Procuring the Smarter State Report and hosted a GovTech SME Roundtable where we explored the findings with SME leaders and Government representatives.
