Driven by digitalisation and the rise of AI, data centres are continuing to expand rapidly, meanwhile heat network zoning will see the deployment of large scale heat networks across London. Data Centres produce substantial waste heat, which often goes unutilised. Waste heat sources are limited in London and capturing and repurposing this surplus energy through integration with heat networks presents a valuable opportunity to drive whole system efficiency and reduce their environmental impact.

AECOM and Hermetica Black have prepared a report investigating how to optimise data centres in London through heat reuse on behalf of the Greater London Authority (GLA). The report can be found here.

This presentation will cover parts of the report which provide a clearer understanding of London's context, challenges and opportunities faced, and practical solutions for integrating data centre waste heat into district heating networks, with an opportunity to discuss how we can collaborate to realise this opportunity.
