About this event

This session offers small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) across the cyber security profession an opportunity to hear directly from the UKCSC team, learn more about the proposed reforms, provide feedback, and contribute to the future development of the framework.

The workshop will begin with a presentation outlining the proposed changes, followed by an interactive discussion and Q&A session to gather views and insights from attendees.

Professional registration

The Council is currently carrying out a review of the framework which underpins its professional register. The register has been live for around four years and feedback has generally been that it is not future-proof, is in places unclear and does not effectively support the demonstration of the technical and professional skills that members of the profession possess.

Key proposed changes are:

  • Professional Title and Technical Skills are represented in a different way – with greater emphasis on technical and the introduction of ways to better reflect unique skillsets – niche skills, new technologies and accreditations

  • The ability to progress within and across the profession

The review of the framework is due for completion by 31 March 2027.

About the UK Cyber Security Council

Awarded Royal Charter status in 2022, the UK Cyber Security Council was established as an independent professional body to create a unified set of professional standards for the UK’s cyber security sector, and to hold the UK’s Cyber Security Professional Register. Our role is to provide a consistent, trusted framework through which practitioners can demonstrate their competence, experience, integrity and commitment to cyber security.

With partners across Government, industry and academia, the Council created the UK Cyber Security Standard for Professional Competence and Commitment. The Standard is backed by the UK Government and the National Cyber Security Centre and is also recognised within the Scottish Government’s approach to workforce professionalisation. It sets out clear levels of professional competencies that cyber security professionals should meet across different roles and specialisms. It also includes a robust framework of integrity and ethics. It is against this Standard that individuals awarded Cyber Security Professional Titles are assessed.

Today, the Council awards four distinct professional titles. These titles chart an individual’s progress from starting out in the sector, to reaching the top of their field.

In addition to setting a unified Standard and holding the UK’s Cyber Security Professional Register, the Council also works with employers, education bodies and partners across the UK to support clear routes into the profession. This includes helping individuals and employers to understand the range of cyber careers available, as well as the different pathways into and through the sector.

Tickets are also available to public sector attendees and can be booked using an access code. If you work for a government body, local authority, NHS organisation or other publicly funded service, please contact the team below to receive the code.
