Government Cyber Action Plan: what it means for SMEs

About this event

On Thursday 8 October, techUK is delighted to welcome representatives from the Government Cyber Unit to brief members on the ambitions in the Government Cyber Action Plan, published in January 2026.

Session overview

Published earlier this year, the Government Cyber Action Plan (GCAP) follows on from the 2022 Government Cyber Security Strategy and sets out a renewed ambition for public sector cyber security, with responsibility for the plan now sitting with the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

SME members will be provided with an overview of the GCAP and how it relates to industry. The session will also provide the opportunity to ask questions about the plan, as well as the government's secure-by-design policies and what these mean for the broader public sector supplier community.

Key takeaways

  • Gain an overview of the Government Cyber Action Plan

  • Understand how the GCAP relates to SME companies

  • Learn how SME companies can partner with government and feed into the delivery of the GCAP

Who should attend

This online session is relevant to SME companies who supply, or want to supply, into the public sector, and who want to understand how public sector cyber security requirements will affect them.
