Local government reorganisation hub

As the voice of the tech industry, techUK is helping suppliers prepare for local government reorganisation with the launch of our dedicated LGR hub.

Local government is undergoing a once in a generation transformation with local government reorganisation (LGR). Over 200 councils across 21 areas are merging into new, smaller unitary authorities.

The opportunity and challenge of LGR

LGR presents an opportunity for councils to improve service delivery, create cost savings and drive digital transformation that improves outcomes for citizens. However, councils face significant challenges, including integrating legacy systems, aligning processes across merged authorities, managing cultural change, and maintaining service continuity throughout the transition.

The role of technology in supporting LGR

Tech companies have a valuable role to play in supporting councils through this transition. They can help to modernise systems, integrate data, enhance cybersecurity, and deliver more efficient public services. The tech sector can help councils not only deliver a smoother LGR process but also transition toward the modern, digitally enabled council of the future.

The LGR hub

The LGR hub is a resource for councils and suppliers to see best practice in action. Here you can find case studies of tech enabled mergers across the public and private sector, as well as views on best practice from industry.

Sharing best practice and case studies

This hub shares knowledge and best practice to ensure LGR is delivered as effectively and efficiently as possible, delivering the best outcomes for local government and citizens.

We are also welcoming case studies from organisations that have facilitated mergers in the private sector, as well as insights from tech companies on best practice and how to achieve the best possible outcomes during LGR.
