Do you want to return to a career in Software Engineering? Do you have previous coding experience in Java? Have you been on a career break, or working in another sector for more than a year?

We are looking for people who want to return to a career in Software Engineering. If you have good, but perhaps rusty experience in Java programming and would like to return to a rewarding coding role in a highly supportive environment, then American Express is the place for you.

We are looking for high performing and enthusiastic returning Software Engineers to join the Technology Returners’ Programme at American Express, Burgess Hill. The Returners’ programme is an up to 22 month programme especially designed as a platform to a full-time role at American Express.

Your primary software development experience will be using Java Technologies. You will be joining a team of experienced Java programmers who will support your return to a coding career. You will be paired with a mentor, and allocated time for self-lead learning while you build your skills back up.

Our engineers’ responsibilities include:

·         Writing clean, tested and monitored scalable code

·         Working with Product Owners to prioritise features for ongoing sprints

·         Working with Quality Engineers to ensure automated test scripts are incorporated for new features

·         Performing all technical aspects of software development for assigned applications, including developing prototypes, writing new code and creating APIs

·         Designing and building integration components and interfaces in collaboration with Architects and Infrastructure Engineers as necessary
