Latest Data Centre Programme Overview

2020 was set to be a very busy year and that was before COVID-19 emerged on the scene.  Before that, the most significant Q1 development was the Budget announcement on 11 March that CCAs would be extended until 2025 and reopened to new entrants.  This was excellent news and we were poised for the next step – alerting the sector (more on that story later).   On other fronts, operators were struggling to get to grips with their obligations under SECR, so we produced a guidance note at the beginning of March.  Our other priority was to start implementing the actions identified in our 2019 Sector Energy Routemap – most importantly establishing ways to reposition data centres as more dynamic players in the energy market.  We had important work lined up on skills, on standards, on resilience and on market development.  So plenty to do.  And then COVID-19 arrived.    Read the full summary, covering topic areas and linking to outputs, below.
