techUK response to the Call for Views on the Cyber Security of Artificial Intelligence

On the 9 August, techUK responded to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology's consultation on the Cyber Security of AI.
After consulting members techUK highlighted a number of recommendations to government, a snapshot of these are outlined below:
While some members agreed with government’s two-part-intervention approach, the majority of those who contributed to techUK’s response did not believe that there is a need for a new national code of practice for the cyber security of AI.
Government should focus on encouraging the application of existing standards to AI systems and then look to identify where specific further action is required for AI systems.
More education and awareness is needed to promote the cyber security of AI and it is important to recognise that the UK is facing a significant shortage of the skills we need to develop AI frameworks and to assure systems’ safety, security and privacy.
There should be more alignment between the Cyber Security of AI Code of Practice and the Software Vendors Code of Practice. There must be a clear and simple way to use both simultaneously and yet as presented that would be a significant effort.
There should be more alignment to activity being carried out by international counterparts.
More engagement should take place once government have published its response to this Call for Views.
