Department for International Trade : Defence & Security Organisation

Working with The Department for International Trade

techUK have spoken with representatives from the Department for International Trade's (DIT) Defence and Security Organistion (DSO) about their responsibilities and priorities moving through 2020, further engaging the tech sector and the impact of COVID-19. DSO exists to help the UK defence and security industries export their products, maintain relationships with overseas governments, as well as promote British products and provide specialist support to assist companies with selling their goods.

Priorities

It was great to understand the work DSO complete and their eagerness to work with techUK and its members from helping the sector and working with small businesses to putting members in touch directly with overseas buyers. Their priorities include:

  • Assisting UK defence and security companies to export their products particularly in their priority markets.
  • Support the major UK defence and security exhibitions
  • Support the UK defence and security industry at overseas events
  • Promote the rapidly-growing cyber security sector

They are ready to help exporters, and potential exporters, navigate the difficult waters of selling into the defence and security markets overseas. They achieve this through strong relationships with industry and overseas governments, and are eager to work with techUK members who may not have existing relationships with them or who may need specialist export advice and practical assistance. They work closely with the Ministry of Justice, the Home Office and the Export Control Joint Unit.

The team were keen for techUK to share their details with you and urge you to get in touch with them if you have any further questions. The techUK JES programme will be working alongside DIT’s DSO and will keep you up to date with any future developments.
