#HealthtechUK update | Nominations open for HSC Council

Dear members,

This month, we have opened nominations for our Health and Social Care Council. Joining a suite of industry experts from across the techUK membership, this is an excellent opportunity for you to help steer the direction of our programme and work closely with the stakeholders shaping the healthcare IT market in the UK. To apply, please read through the Terms of Reference (ToR), complete the nomination form and return to Tom Russell by 17:00 on 2 November. More information about this opportunity can be found here or by contacting us directly.

NHSX Digital Technology Assessment criteria

After an open consultation organised earlier this year on the proposed Digital Health Technology Standard, NHSX has now launched the Digital Technology Assessment Criteria (DTAC) as a beta version. Through this, the aim is to set the baseline for the assessment of digital technologies for health and social care. The document will be followed by a Guide to Good Practice for Digital and Data-Driven Health Technologies that will be released by the AI Lab later this month. The new criteria can be seen here.

At techUK, we are supportive of the process NHSX is undertaking, but we are awaiting member feedback before we consider any kind of public endorsement. We will be working closely with NHSX over the coming months to ensure the DTAC is fit for purpose and provides an adequate route to market for innovators. If you would like to provide feedback, please get in touch with us directly.

Update from the West Midlands roundtable

On 9 October, techUK members met with senior representatives from the West Midlands healthtech ecosystem to continue our work on regional engagement. Led by Eddie Olla, Regional Director for Digital Transformation, NHS England and Improvement, the roundtable provided an opportunity to receive an update on their strategies for NHS@Home, social care and reducing inequalities. Much of the discussion subsequently focused on improving supplier vs system relations and, among others, how to make data sharing across an Integrated Care System a reality. As we move forward, the West Midlands roundtables will become a series of engagement opportunities. The next one is scheduled for December, with the date to be confirmed shortly. Please get in touch if you would like to be involved.

Inaugural user-centred design working group meeting

Our recently formed user-centred design working group met for the first time on 8 October to kick off our programme of work in this area. Managed with colleagues at NHS Digital and NHSX, the group is aiming to champion user-centred design, identify good practice and improve our approaches for the future. We are currently reviewing the feedback collected via Miro, an interactive whiteboard, and planning the next meeting. If you are interested and would like to contribute, please get in touch.

Updates on the healthtech market

Following the event on trends and opportunities and analysing healthtech spend organised back in August in partnership with Tussell, provider of data on public sector contracts, we are delighted to have teamed up with them again to bring you regular updates on the UK’s healthtech market.
Every month, we will be publishing member-only insights on the largest contracts awarded and released during the previous 30-day period. The latest one can be seen here.

Greater Manchester spotlight: The Northern Care Alliance NHS Group

Last but not least, part of our ongoing regional engagement, on 5 November, we will be hosting a briefing with John Llewelyn, Group Digital Director, and Tracey Watson, Chief Information Officer, at the Northern Care Alliance (NCA) NHS Group, who will provide an update on major programmes of work and potential upcoming opportunities for industry. Members will hear from senior colleagues from the Digital department, including Jim Ritchie, Chief Clinical Information Officer and Local Health and Care Record Exemplar Programme Director, and other representatives from the NCA.
