National Management Centre wins National Cyber Award

The NMC, which was developed and is run by National Enabling Programmes (NEP), was recognised for its work as a new central security protection facility for police forces across England and Wales.

The awards, in particular, recognised the huge impact that the NMC will have on collaboration nationally. Wayne Parkes, Programme Director for the NEP, said: “We are thrilled to have been given this award and nationally recognised for the hard work which is taking place at the National Management Centre which is a key part of the wider National Enabling Programmes. “At the NEP, we are exceptionally proud of the team which has worked tirelessly to develop a ground-breaking approach to protect against cybercrime. We’re implementing the NMC as a focused cyber security protection facility that has been developed to support the requirements and demands of UK policing. “This award highlights the good work that is taking place within the NEP and the potential for collaboration that will happen nationally in the coming months.”

The NMC deploys a range of security tools, technologies and a specialist team of analysts that monitor, hunt and help to detect unknown, sophisticated and evasive cyber security threats 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days each year. The Centre ensures each force’s local ICT team can lock down and eliminate any cyber threats before they cause damage and disruption to the IT systems and devices used by the force’s officers and staff. The NMC provides knowledge above and beyond what would typically be possible at force level, helping to ensure police forces can stay ahead of crime. This knowledge is shared across the policing community, and gives police forces - and UK policing as a whole - a much broader perspective of the threat landscape
