Commenting on today’s announcement by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, Antony Walker, Deputy CEO techUK said:
“techUK welcomes the EU’s fresh ambition to tackle the climate crisis and the recognition of the role of smarter systems in helping us to deliver a carbon neutral economy.
Digital technologies – particularly 5G, AI and IoT – will provide essential tools for increasing the efficiency of the economy and supporting the energy transition whilst cutting the cost to consumers. The sector is also the world’s largest purchaser of renewable energy making it an important anchor customer for renewable energy. For example, data centres, electro-intensive with stable, predictable demand, are well positioned to help facilitate a more distributed grid and drive increased renewable generation.
We look forward to working together with regulators in Brussels and London to build a sustainable policy agenda.”
