techUK Members win at WITSA 2019 Global ICT Excellence Awards

techUK is pleased to announce that our members Yoti and Chipside have picked up awards at the prestigious WITSA 2019 Global ICT Excellence Awards

These prestigious awards are held by the World Information Technology and Services Alliance (WITSA), a leading consortium of ICT industry association members from 83 countries around the world. The aim of these global awards is to honour organisations that have demonstrated exceptional achievement using ICT to benefit societies, governments, individuals, organisations and the private sector.

The award ceremony was held in conjunction with the World Congress on IT in Yerevan, Armenia (WCIT 2019) which took place from October 6 to 9 and included sessions on topics ranging from artificial intelligence, virtual reality, smart cities to cybersecurity, climate change, and more.

techUK member Yoti won the Merit Award for Digital Innovation whilst Chipside won the Merit Award for Public/Private Partnership

Chipside – Public/ Private Partnership Award

This award acknowledges successful partnerships between government and private sector entities in ICT. The judges were particularly impressed with Chipside’s work digitising local authorities’ parking through its MiPermit app.  Chipside has partnerships with more than half of all local councils in the United Kingdom, including iconic cities such as Bath and Cardiff – the capital of Wales.

Chipside CEO, Paul Moorby OBE, says: “Receiving this award is recognition for the hard work and results we have delivered for local authorities across the UK. Our technology provides the opportunity to improve traffic flow in towns and cities, and better manage and define parking and permit guideline – reducing costs and offering the public an improved parking experience.”

The WITSA award is the most recent recognition for Chipside after winning a Queen’s Award for Enterprise: Innovation 2019 and being nominated for Technology Business of the Year in the British Business Awards.

Yoti - Digital Innovation Award

Yoti have been recognised for their efforts in using smartphones and biometric technology to transform paper identity documents, such as passports and driving licences, into a free, modern digital ID. They have created a simple, fast and secure way to prove and protect your identity online and in person, which empowers individuals to understand the value of their personal data.

This award comes at a really exciting time for Yoti as they see their Age Check solution adopted in over 9,000 convenience stores in the UK, allowing you to purchase age-restricted goods, such as cigarettes or energy drinks, with your phone.

Speaking on two techUK members picking up awards, Head of International Trade at techUK, Simon Spier, commented, “It is great to see two of our members being recognised on the global stage for their contributions to innovation. UK tech continues to punch at the highest level and we are delighted to see our members receive acknowledgment for their technology at such a prominent event.”
