Justice & Emergency Services Management Committee: Quarterly Statement

Quarterly Statement (August)

Following on from the great engagement from the Chair’s Interim Statement in May, the Justice & Emergency Services Management Committee are releasing a quarterly communication.

So, what’s been happening since May?

We hosted the Police ICT Company for a briefing on another policing acronym! This time it was for the Data Analysis Model and Application Reference Catalogue (DAMARC). The Police ICT Company and the National Enabling Programmes provided members with an update on the Tech & Data Strategy that Industry contributed to in January, as well as the programmes themselves. More news to come on this soon…

techUK were busy all throughout London Tech Week, and the JES Programme was represented at the Home Office and Attorney General’s Office shared Tech Summit, Modernising Criminal Justice Conference, and Mission Critical Technologies.
Together with the Cloud, Data Analytics and AI programme we hosted the Algorithms in Policing event which contributed to RUSI and CDEI’s research on algorithmic bias.
techUK are working closely with the Digital Policing Portfolio’s Frontline Digital Mobility team. Jess attended the South & South East “Ways of Working” Workshop along with frontline officers to shape the future of frontline mobility, putting officer and public safety at the heart of solution design.

Looking down the line…

Our Interoperability for Policing Initiative will have the first meeting for the new working group on 03 September. This will scope the potential for a charter and a roadmap to drive this forward.
techUK’s biggest public sector event, Building the Smarter State, takes place in September, with a public safety focus in the afternoon.

The annual Justice and Emergency Services Reception will be in London on 15 October. Don’t miss out on a (free!) relaxed evening of networking, drinks and nibbles.
We are creating more opportunities for techUK’s SME members to engage meaningfully with tech leaders in policing, with opportunities such as the SMEs meet the CIOs briefing and pitch event.

The JES Programme is developing a timely thought leadership piece that will highlight various tech tools that members are working on that are, or can be, used to support the efforts to tackle violent crime. This report will give members an opportunity to highlight the good and important work they are doing in supporting our critical Public Safety and Criminal Justice services around the UK. If you would like to find out more about the report, do reach out to Jess (Jessica.russell@techuk.org).

Finally, in the monthly newsletter that Jess sends out, there is a new section called “Members’ News” where we are able to send in updates, achievements and announcements. We have a spot permanently reserved for SMEs there, so do send them through!

As always, the Committee invites techUK’s members to reach out with ideas, opportunities and concerns that should be considered as part of the programme for the remainder of our tenure. We look forward to hearing from you.
