PM sets out vision to cement UK as a science superpower

Commenting on the Government's plan to develop a new fast-track visa route for the brightest and best, techUK CEO Julian David said:

“This timely announcement signals the UK’s commitment to remain a global hub of excellence in science and innovation. From developing ethical AI to working on battery technology and quantum computing we need to ensure our world leading universities have access to the brightest minds. Access to world-class talent is key to powering the UK’s tech success story.

"Liberalising the visa system is a very welcome step in delivering the immigration policies that we need to ‘level-up’ Britain and unleash productivity across the UK. We know that for every tech job created an additional five ancillary jobs are created so we must ensure that companies large and small also have access to the talent they need to deploy these new technologies.

"That is why techUK is calling for broader reform of the immigration system to ensure that we can continue to attract and retain talent at all levels whether that is overseas students who want to contribute to our economy and society after they graduate or more experienced individuals from the EEA and beyond who have the skills our businesses need.”
