Misconceptions about data centres flourish. Here we debunk some of the more common myths.

Early this year, at an informal gathering of European data centre associations kindly organised and hosted by Stijn Grove of DDA, conversation turned to a perennial problem – the fact that nobody outside the sector really understands what data centres are.  Garry Connelly of Host In Ireland suggested that the group compile a list of common myths.  Benedicte Fasmer Waaler from Norway and Emma Fryer from the UK got to work and came up with this starter for ten.  A summary version has been published in the April version of Data Economy Magazine (pp56-57) and an illustrated precis has been circulated by Host in Ireland through social media.  This longer version is the original text that those were derived from.
