Join techUK’s social care working group!

According to NHS Digital figures, social care spending by local authorities rose by £556m in 2016/17 to £17.5bn and LGiU’s State of Local Government Finance 2018 survey found that adult social care remains the greatest long-term pressure for councils, with 38% of respondents putting it top of their list. Social care continues to dominate the headlines and these stark figures show that many local public services will not be able to continue to deliver adult social care services as they are. 

Mission

As such, techUK hosted a roundtable that brought together key stakeholders and industry to explore how technology can help alleviate the unprecedented pressures facing adult social care. Following the roundtable, we are pleased to be setting-up a Social Care Working Group that will bring together members of the Local Government and Health & Social Care Programme to interrogate the challenges the social care market faces and together launch a vision paper on the future of social care.

Aim

The short-term objective is to deliver a short paper outlining 10 principles which underpins the future of social care through digital innovation. We are also expecting the Government Social Care Green Paper to be launched shortly, and the working group will help develop techUK’s response to this.

We will then be led by members on what the next steps of the working group should be and where we can add value in this very timely and important topic.

We will aim to meet in April, and there will be the opportunity to meet remotely.

Responsibilities

  • Provide an authoritative and recognised voice for the industry by contributing to thought leadership
  • Define key recommendations and outputs
  • Steer and shape follow-up activity/engagement to the output

Membership

  • Membership will be open to techUK members.
  • techUK’s Working Groups will reflect the range of companies, both in terms of sectors and size that are interested in each Work Programme. We will endeavour to have at least two SMEs involved in the working group.
