Law Commission launches Automated Vehicles Consultation

The Law Commission is reviewing the regulatory framework for the safe deployment of automated vehicles in the UK. Its first consultation has been launched, and welcomes responses.

The review will specifically consider the legal regulation of automated road vehicles for passengers in England, Scotland and Wales. The consultation period closes on 08 February.

Topics covered as part of the review include:

  • The human in the loop
  • Safety assurance pre-placement
  • Regulating safety on the roads
  • Civil liability
  • Criminal liability
  • Interfering with automated vehicles
  • Adapting road rules
