Salford appoints its first Chief Digital Officer (CDO)

Today the Mayor of Salford, Paul Dennett announced the appointment of Jon Corner as the city’s first ever Chief Digital Officer (CDO). The CDO is tasked with playing a leading role in the realisation of the city’s ambition to design and deliver a digital strategy that will make Salford the most attractive city for digital enterprise.

Jon brings more than 16 years of experience in technology and digital transformation in both the public and private sector. In his role as CEO of The Landing, he set up and shaped one of the most successful regional and national tech clusters which, in the last three years has grown over 120 new companies and contributed over £89m GVA to the UK digital economy in 2017.

“The appointment of Salford’s first ever Chief Digital Officer (CDO) to lead the digital transformation of the city is to be applauded. It’s a clear indication of the region’s digital desire and ambition to be a leading smart city. techUK has long called for country-wide CDOs as part of its Digital Devolution work and Jon Corner will have an important and unique role in further supporting Greater Manchester and Metro Mayor Andy Burnham’s digital aspirations.

“Over the last year, we have seen an important trend towards the appointment of city-wide CDOs who have a crucial role in transforming local public service outcomes, facilitating collaboration and helping to create smart communities and places where citizens want to live and work.  We urge leaders of other city areas to take note.”

“We look forward to working with Salford’s CDO to realise his ambitions and deliver on digital devolution.”
