techUK & The University of Edinburgh Business School: New Analyst Launchpad Partnership to Help UK Digital Businesses Scale Up

 

Many of the UK’s digital startups and scale-ups are unaware of the power industry analyst firms, such as Gartner, IDC and Forester have in deciding a young tech company’s future. Research by the UEBS Analyst Observatory finds that an endorsement from one of these companies can give a new or scaling up business instant credibility with venture capitalists and customers, increasing sales and providing access to the investment they need to grow. However, many of these analysts are US-based and tend to favor their home market, which can also put UK tech companies at a geographical disadvantage.

Building on a decade worth of Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) sponsored research carried out at the University of Edinburgh Business School (UEBS), the UEBS has joined forces with techUK to deliver a programme of events to equip companies with the know-how and the right tools to place their ventures on the radar of leading venture capital, tech buyer and industry analysis ecosystems, and grow internationally. 

With the first event delivered on 29 January, the Analyst Launchpad helps UK digital startups to understand the value of engaging with industry analysts and provide a step-by-step guide to ‘pitch’ to gain their endorsement.

According to Professor Pollock who researches analyst relations at the University of Edinburgh Business School: “Although the first equity pitch given to investors is important, this is only an initial step in securing a tech enterprise’s future. It is vital for the UK’s digital businesses to know how to make a ‘second pitch’ to industry analysts. UK firms which manage to get on the radar of these influencers typically have higher average survival rates”.

Our first free information session gave participants the chance to learn more about the endorsement economy, the value of analyst relations, and the ways how pitching to industry analysts can help boost business growth.   

The Analyst Launchpad will develop throughout the year to offer businesses free information sessions, in-depth seminars and workshops on how to use industry analysts for marketing and business development, and opportunities to use your new knowledge directly by pitching to analysts.
