Data centres are the buildings that house the servers behind everything from online banking to artificial intelligence (AI). They are where the internet lives. Data centres have also moved rapidly up the political agenda, as growing demand puts them at the centre of debates about energy, water, planning and growth.
As the UK's leading technology trade association, we connect the operators, policymakers and communities shaping what data centres mean for what comes next. Here, we answer the questions we're asked most often, in plain English, with links to the full evidence.
