This group tracks new environmental legislation and market trends, with a particular focus on the circular economy, eco-design and labelling for energy and material efficiency, and the management of waste electronics.
It is currently engaging with government on its forthcoming review of the Producer Responsibility Regime for waste electricals and electronics and for batteries, the revision of the England’s Waste Prevention Programme and works with the UK government as it sets new eco-design requirements for energy related products. The group also helps Defra set targets for WEEE collections, works on underpinning standards, and advocates measures that support an effective UK systems and market surveillance.
The group regularly hears from the recycling, waste management and Producer Compliance Scheme communities, as well as other relevant stakeholders and NGOs, and feeds into the techUK chaired Joint Trade Association, a coalition of trade associations representing producers of electrical and electronic equipment. techUK also chairs the Material Focus board.
