Issue: Early and effective pre-procurement market engagement with industry is critical to ensure government has access to innovative tech. With a more strategic approach (particularly when it comes to understanding emerging tech) and by helping more SMEs access the public sector market, there is a great opportunity to harness new technologies to transform public service delivery and achieve value for money for taxpayers.
Activity: techUK will work with stakeholders across Whitehall departments to support government in delivering digital transformation. We will aim to run market engagement events with the Cabinet Office, Home Office, MoJ, DWP, Defra, HMRC, Department for Education, and others.
Activity: To help the government become a more intelligent client for tech, and to help improve tech procurement across Whitehall, we will work closely with the Crown Commercial Service to ensure that procurement frameworks are optimised for tech suppliers. We will run a series of events with CCS to make sure that suppliers are well informed of their pipeline of activities, and are able to provide feedback as appropriate.
Activity: techUK will conduct our annual GovTech SME Survey, and will publish the results in Q1 of 2020. We will work with central government departments to implement the recommendations based on members views. We will host a series of events to work on improving SMEs access to public sector market.
Activity: techUK’s Central Government Council will publish research on Government views of the supplier community, and will propose some recommendations on how the tech industry and central Government can better work in partnership together.
