There are now over 15.3 million people in the UK aged 60 and above. By 2040, one in 7 people in the UK will be aged over 75. The figures show the UK’s population is getting an older. The challenge an ageing population places on public services is well publicised, but this challenge also brings an opportunity for industry, researchers and the public sector to better work together to support our ageing population live longer, healthier and happier lives. Digital technology is a major contributor to helping achieve these goals by allowing for greater monitoring and earlier diagnosis of health conditions as well as helping to energise behavioral change.
As such, techUK has been working with some of the organisations who are in the frontline of the challenges that our ageing society poses - HACT, the Health Innovation Network (South London Academic Health Science Network), the Local Government Association (LGA), Socitm, Suffolk Council and others - to come up with problem statements that industry and public service leaders from across housing, local government and health can workshop through solutions together on the day.
What will the day entail..
It will be an interactive session with delegates working in groups reviewing challenges that cut across social isolation; falls and prevention; physical activity to cultural changes. Attendees will review the problem statements and together explore potential solutions and what new products and services will help people to live in their homes for longer, tackle loneliness, and increase independence and wellbeing.
The session will offer industry the opportunity to hear first-hand from practitioners the challenges posed by an ageing society to better shape their products/services; and network with individuals across the social care eco-system.
We look forward to hearing from attendees on the day about their innovations and will use the outcome of the session to inform future activity in this area. techUK will be circulating the problem statements in advance of the session so attendees will have enough time to review and come prepared with their ideas.
