Payments Working Group Launch
techUK is relaunching its Payments Working Group. The group will give members a single forum to shape techUK's positions on the fast-moving payments agenda, from the modernisation of the Payment Services Regulations, the future of Open Banking and variable recurring payments to tokenised payments, and the emergence of agentic payments. Join us on Thuesday 27 October for the inaugural session, where we will agree the group's priorities for the year ahead, set out our engagement plan with HM Treasury, the FCA and the Bank of England, and hear from members on the barriers they are facing. We will be joined by Danny Russell, Head of Payments Innovation Technology at the Bank of England.

About this event
Payments is moving from incremental upgrade to wholesale reinvention. The National Payments Vision is now in delivery, with the Payments Vision Delivery Committee, HM Treasury, the Bank of England and the FCA setting the direction for the UK's future retail payments infrastructure, alongside near-term upgrades to Faster Payments and Bacs. At the same time, HM Treasury's consultation on modernising payment services regulation, the transfer of the PSR's functions into the FCA, new Open Banking interface rules and the arrival of commercial Variable Recurring Payments are reshaping both the rulebook and the commercial model.
To help members shape this fast-moving area, techUK is relaunching its Payments Working Group. This first meeting will set the group's priorities for the year ahead, with a focus on the technology underpinning next-generation payments: infrastructure modernisation, account-to-account and open banking rails, fraud and financial crime tooling, and tokenised or programmable payments. We will also discuss how these fit into the UK's future tech stack. We will be joined by Danny Russell, Head of Payments Innovation Technology at the Bank of England.
The group builds on techUK's wider financial services and payments work and will channel member views directly into our engagement with HM Treasury, the FCA and the Bank of England. As a member-led group, its agenda will be shaped by those who take part.
