But less discussed are the extent of the opportunities for value and the safeguards that need to be put in place to realise the potential in an economy based on data-sharing.

We are therefore delighted that Liz Brandt, CEO of Ctrl-Shift will come to discuss her report, Data Mobility: The personal data portability growth opportunity for the UK economy.

The report, commissioned by the Dept of Culture, Media and Sport, examines the potential of personal data portability to stimulate innovation and competition, and to develop a tool to demonstrate practical approaches to personal data portability.

The vision of personal data mobility described in the report goes beyond data portability as specified by the GDPR. The report lays out the current state of personal data portability and mobility in the digital economy and the potential of data mobility to unshackle personal data, and so stimulate new levels of innovation, productivity and competition. It identifies 5 core issues that must be understood and uses this analysis to:

clarify understanding of the multiple connected risks and consequences of personal data mobility challenges.

form the basis of a co-ordinated and practical development agenda for the successful realisation of the benefits of personal data mobility.

To read the full report, please click here, or here for the report summary.

Come and join techUK and invited guests from the regulatory and policy fields to discuss these crucial issues.
Contact: lucas.banach@techuk.org http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/14375-making-the-most-of-your-techuk-membership Making the most of your techUK membership http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/14375-making-the-most-of-your-techuk-membership Wed, 28 Nov 2018 10:51:29 +0000 CRM Sync noreply@techuk.org If you like to learn about techUK benefits, this event is for you!
We would like to invite you to meet with the techUK membership team.

We will introduce you to techUK, explain how we are structured, how we work and how you as a member can get the most from what we have to offer.

We will introduce you to techUK’s programmes as well as our wider member services. To stay in tip-top condition, you need to get enough, quality shut-eye. But up to 80% of professionals feel tired, regularly.

When we are tired, we struggle to pay attention, we can’t retain important facts or make smart decisions. In fact, the causes of disasters like Chernobyl, Exxon Valdez and the Challenger Space Shuttle were found to stem from fatigue.

And sleep quality has been gradually deteriorating since the adoption of the electric light, around 150 years ago. More so over the past 10 years, as many of us are taking our work to bed on brightly lit laptops and smartphones.

With sleep deprivation a widespread subject that no one is talking about, we thought we’d go a little off piste for the first Marketing and Sales session of 2019 to explore sleep and the impact it can have on performance.

Sleep expert, Dan Collins, will guide us through the session. Dan has spent 25 years researching why some teams and leaders outperform others. He’s concluded that all of us would do better if we could manage our sleep more effectively. He now helps people unravel the mysteries of sleep and discover how they can wake up restored every day.

This session has been organised by the group vice-chair, Sarah Hinchliffe, who attended one of Dan’s workshops in March 2018. She learnt that despite worrying for a long time about the amount and quality of her sleep, (a) she isn’t actually tired and (b) she does get enough.
