Data sharing across Government departments

In 2019 the NAO’s report on challenges in using data across Government focussed on the Government’s need to master its data to improve services and efficiency. It emphasizes that strong collaboration between the tech industry and Government will be key to enabling public officials to implement and manage the latest technologies and methods that have already been proven in other sectors of the UK economy.

This session will explore how data protection officers (DPOs) across Government work together to improve the quality of data sharing across departments. This will include examining the Government’s approach to data, and particularly assessing whether departments are well aligned and coordinated effectively. Discussion will include how industry and Government can better collaborate around data, learning key lessons from other sectors and identifying best-practice. Attendees will explore how industry, can help the Government to transform the way it both gathers and exploits data, in turn helping the department to reduce costs and improve capability.

The discussion will also touch upon some of the key challenges Government faces such as safely and securely sharing data.
