Overview

This free one-hour webinar provides a structured opportunity for knowledge exchange between IMechE members and those working in critical environments in the data centre sector. Data centre operators will explain how the sector has evolved over the last three decades and discuss the engineering challenges they are facing in areas like facilities management, power and cooling. The session will also provide an opportunity to consider how innovations in other engineering-rich disciplines and industries could be applied in data centre environments. We will also explore the kind of opportunities available within data infrastructure for those who can bring expertise from other sectors to help us tackle some of these challenges.

Format

The webinar will be moderated by Steve Wright, COO at 4D Data Centres. After a brief introduction to the sector, our panellists, all of whom started their careers well away from data centres, will explain what drew them to work in these critical environments and outline where they see opportunities for technology transfer and career progression within this little known sector. This will be followed by plenty of opportunity for Q&A.
