The last month saw a strong focus on digital and the role it plays in improving our cities and public services. The announcement of Theo Blackwell's appointment as London's first Chief Digital Officer shows a clear interest and commitment to exploring how data and innovation can create smart places and communities where citizens want to live, work and thrive.

At techUK's flagship conference, PS2030, we explored further how the public services that citizens receive from Government will be revolutionised by the innovative technologies of the future through focusing on the art of the possible on a cross-sector and cross-industry level. You can find a full round up of activities here.

Coming up in October we have a series of sessions looking at the future of our energy and transport systems. We'll be kicking things off on 2 October with a session exploring the promise of in-car technology, the connectivity needed to support it, and the implications of connected mobility for cities. On 10 October we will then turn our attention to Smart Meters with a session aimed at sharing knowledge and current best practice in information security, including actions suppliers take to secure systems and the implications for the IoT. Finally on 17 October, we will host a roundtable with BEIS looking at energy & data protection in the connected world, especially the implications of GDPR and the opportunities it opens up.
