techUK Comments on Prime Minister's Speech to Conservative Conference

Commenting on the Prime Minsiter, Theresa May's, speech to Conservative Party Conference, techUK's Deputy CEO, Antony Walker, said:

“The Prime Minister made a bold defence of the importance of open, international markets to driving our economy. Nowhere is that more important than in the tech sector, where our country must fight to secure its position as a global leader in the face of Brexit and wider economic uncertainty.

“While Theresa May is right to defend the importance of private enterprise, the Government must also continue to listen to businesses and support them with actions as well as words. Chief among this must be a continued push to secure real progress in the Brexit negotiations, by formally securing a transitional agreement, and moving the negotiations on to talk about the UK/EU trade deal, data flows and immigration. Injecting urgency into the Brexit talks is the best way to achieve the kind of Global Britain the Prime Minister rightly champions.”
