The Issues for trade, export and investment

Exporting is big business for UK based companies. In the 12 months to September 2015, UK exports totalled £283 billion. In 2014, the UK was ranked as the 11th largest global exporter. The market, whilst large, remains challenging, exports dropped 1.9% in 2015 versus the preceding year and the UK’s overall annual trade deficit widened to £34.8 billion in 2014. The Government has set a target of £1 trillion of annual exports by 2020 and this can only be achieved by significant investment and support for UK businesses that wish to enter and grow the export sales market.

techUK support member trade, export and investment activities through a number of activities:

  • We work with the Department for International Trade (DIT) as a trade support partner, providing input into the requirements and actions that Government can take to support sustainable growth in the technology export sector
  • We provide access to financial and organisational support that enables companies to exhibit at international trade fairs
  • We run seminars, briefing sessions and training courses on how to export to key global markets
  • We co-ordinate inward investment workshops providing networking and pitching opportunities
  • We represent the technology manufacturing and supply chain community in ensuring fit for purpose export control regulations through negotiations with BIS and the Export Controls Office
  • We collate, filter and share international trade opportunities of potential interest to members via our website
