Special Interest Group

The Defence Commercial Special Interest Group (DCSIG) works to improve the relationships, communication, and access issues between the UK technology industry and commercial elements of the Ministry of Defence. The unique nature of the UK Defence industry provides a number of challenges for contracting for technology and for working with UK suppliers of all sizes. The DCSIG works in partnership with MOD, specifically with the Commercial elements of Information Systems and Services (ISS) which sits within Joint Forces Command.

The DCSIG was formally established in 2015 and met with senior ISS commercial representatives to highlight and discuss potential issues to collaborate on in 2016 onwards. Issues such as contracting for information, contracting for innovation, long-term effective SME engagement mechanisms, the availability of basic business development information for industry, and protection of IPR were all discussed by industry and ISS.

Throughout 2016 the group will work to resolve short term issues about DEFCON and DEFORM consultations as well as longer term MOD commercial planning. It will also provide a channel between MOD and industry at the MOD DEFCON Working Group (DWG).

This industry group is formed of the Commercial and Contracts Managers from techUK members engaged in the Defence Programme. If you are a techUK member and would like your relevant person to be represented on the group please contact Andy Johnston.
