But the advent of 5G presents an opportunity to transform emergency services communications, enabling them to share a much wider range of comms data. Which will have a significant impact on effectiveness and efficiency.

And as the UK prepares for the future of a fifth generation network, we wonder just how much 5G could transform the emergency services’ ability to keep us safe and secure by providing them with real-time intelligence and unparalleled situational awareness.

This event will examine the benefits that a fifth generation network that could deliver to the emergency services. We will explore the impact of 5G on major incidents response, the future of the control room, monitoring and prevention, and mobile working. The panel will explore how better connectivity and capacity could allow the services to take advantage of the latest technologies, and will try to identify what steps need to be taken by comms infrastructure providers, tech suppliers to blue lights services, and the Government, to make 5G enabled emergency services a reality.

Speakers will include representatives from:
• Samsung
• EE
• Capita
• Home Office
Contact: henry.rex@techuk.orgContact: sophie.weston@techuk.orgContact: sophie.warren@linklaters.com http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/13325-making-the-most-of-your-techuk-membership Making the most of your techUK membership http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/13325-making-the-most-of-your-techuk-membership Thu, 14 Jun 2018 09:04:11 +0100 CRM Sync noreply@techuk.org Would you like to learn more about the many benefits and services that you can access through your company’s techUK membership? The Crime Survey of England and Wales 2017 indicated that there were 3.4 million incidents of fraud last year. And over half of all fraud is online. This NCA Strategic Assessment of Serious & Organised Crime 2018, published in May, emphasised the importance of fraud, and highlighted that “our understanding of fraud in the UK is hampered by under-reporting; less than 20% of incidents are reported to the police.” The challenge facing the police and other bodies charged with investigation is how to remain relevant in this arena as the proportion of non-reported incidents continues to grow.

techUK is conscious of the challenges facing law enforcement and policy makers in a world where traditional governmental models of recording and investigating crime are proving no match for surging technologies - which enable credible threats to be delivered simultaneously to multiple targets at marginal cost by almost invisible adversaries. The victims can be governments, organisations or individuals - but the criminals’ tools are largely the same.

This event challenges technology innovators and others in the market place to engage with policy makers, the police and other statutory bodies to suggest ways in which collaboration might level the playing field and redress the balance. It is vital that cloud users are equipped with the skills needed to keep pace with cloud developments and realise the full potential of investment in platform, infrastructure and software cloud services.

The Cloud Skills Gap Roundtable is an opportunity to bring together members to unpick these issues. The key points to be discussed include:

What type of skills gaps are you identifying, either in employees or at an organisational-level, when thinking about the adoption of cloud technologies?

Where do the biggest technical skills gaps lie in your current or planned use of cloud?

What are the potential solutions and next steps required to address the cloud skills gap?

This roundtable will form the basis for our future work in this area. In Defence, we have recently seen a renewed focus from senior leaders including VCDS and CGS on the future importance of information warfare and capability, which re-inforces that cyber skills will be increasingly important in all areas of the military. This techUK Information Superiority Council Briefing will be an opportunity to discuss the challenges facing UK defence in ensuring its workforce has sufficient cyber skills, examining the shared cross industry challenges as well as those areas where Defence has unique challenges.

One key issue to be discussed will be how the military can best utilise civilian expertise, in the same way that 77 Brigade has pioneered using a mixture of regulars and reservists. Using innovative career pathways like this and secondee programmes are a good way of bringing skills into MOD. Upskilling current service people will also be a topic for discussion, particularly in terms of raising awareness of cyber threats and ensuring sufficient cyber hygiene is practiced throughout all functions. The MOD already has £120 million set aside for recruitment in this area so another area for discussion will focus around how MOD can better market the uniquely challenging roles it has, which can’t be found in the private sector.

We are delighted that Air Cdre Tim Neal-Hopes, Head Joint User C4ISR & Cyber, MOD has agreed to speak. Indiscriminate disruptive incidents also affect the UK and our partners. The proliferation of low-cost high-end commercial capabilities, novel weapons, and sophisticated data-driven technologies including autonomous systems are also changing the security environment. But what does this mean for the Army and UK Industry?

This event will explore the intersection between technology, attack techniques and the ethical debate around Cyber operations, and examine the state-driven risk environment to both Defence and Industry. It asks the question ‘What are the potential synergies between the Army and Industry in protecting our people, projecting our global influence and promoting our prosperity?.

Contact: talal.rajab@techuk.orgContact: Charlie.Wyatt@techuk.orgContact: dan.patefield@techuk.org http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/13422-october-cloud-leadership-committee October Cloud Leadership Committee http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/13422-october-cloud-leadership-committee Tue, 03 Jul 2018 11:45:00 +0100 CRM Sync noreply@techuk.org October meeting of the techUK Cloud Leadership Committee.
Please note this is a committee-only meeting and not open to those not on the Cloud Leadership Committee.
http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/13112-techuk-introductory-evening-october-2018 techUK Introductory Evening - October 2018 http://www.techuk.org/events/meeting/item/13112-techuk-introductory-evening-october-2018 Fri, 18 May 2018 08:58:26 +0100 CRM Sync noreply@techuk.org techUK Introductory Evening
Whether you are new to techUK, thinking of joining us or would just like a reminder of the many benefits and services that we have to offer, then this is the event for you.

We invite you to join us for an introductory evening, where we will tell you more about techUK, how we work and how you, as a member, can access our many member benefits and services.

We will explain our vision for the UK tech industry and our priorities for 2018.
