More young people and increasingly women are starting their own businesses. A number of smart city initiatives have been launched in the buildings, transport, parking, communications and environmental sectors, and a futuristic new city NEOM has been unveiled. Saudi Arabia is keen to access innovative UK expertise and investment. The Saudi SME Authority is leading efforts to improve the business environment for SMEs, and support both start-ups and scale-ups. This is therefore an excellent time for UK companies, funds and advisers to engage.

The plan is to spend two days in Jeddah (18-19 November) and two days in Riyadh (20-21 November). The programme is currently being developed, but will include meetings with key industry and governmental stakeholders, including SAGIA, Saudi SME Authority, SABIC and the Ministry of Communications and IT. We will also meet with some of the innovation hubs who attended the SME Forum, including King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Wadi Makkah Company and King Saud University.

The delegation will be led by Chris Innes-Hopkins, SBJBC UK Executive Director, who has extensive public and private sector experience of the country. Saudi SBJBC members and investors will be involved, and the mission has the support of SAGIA and the DIT.

We will levy a modest programme management fee (with discounts for SBJBC members and SMEs).
