Type 1 Diabetes: The Rise of the Machines

Technology has huge potential to transform type 1 diabetes and some people with the condition are already showing remarkable results using new digital technologies.

Continuous and Flash Glucose Monitors are becoming more widespread; and after decades of algorithm development, early iterations of the artificial pancreas are coming of age.

Meanwhile, some people who are certainly not ‘patient’ have chosen to adapt technology themselves.

But most people in the UK continue to manage their condition with tools that remain largely unchanged since last century.

Can the NHS adapt to meet the challenge of prescribing new technologies?

Does the world of the NHS have a place for patient-led innovation?

This event, co-hosted by techUK and Partha Kar will showcase what is currently possible with today’s tools and what we need to do to make digital a reality for the many rather than the few.

We will also look at what companies, healthcare professionals and people affected by the condition are working to make possible in the near future.

The event is free to attend but please recognise that by booking a place you are committing to attend and potentially depriving someone else from a place.

We will ask for a £20 donation to a diabetes charity of your choice for anyone that drops out less than two weeks before the conference.
